Eagle Wing Trailhead Parking Lot
The Cañon City Area Recreation and Park District closes and locks the gates at the Eagle Wing Trailhead, W. New York Ave. and Colburn Lane in Cañon City from dusk to dawn each evening. Currently all Recreation District facilities are open from dawn to dusk, year-round. However, due to vandalism issues and noise and trash complaints at the Eagle Wing parking lot we have decided to close and lock the existing gates at dusk and overnight. The District wants all our parks to be used by the citizens we serve, but we must also be responsible. Signs are posted in the parking lot to inform community members of this practice.
The gates are locked each evening, once the sun sets, and are opened at sunrise the next morning. We ask all trail users to be aware of this practice and plan accordingly. It is our hope we will see a reduction in vandalism in the South Cañon Trails area, so everyone can have a better experience in this open space. District staff will continue to monitor and evaluate this practice and determine if any changes need to be made.
If your vehicle is locked in the parking lot, you will have to wait until the next morning for District staff to open the gates. There will be no charge or fine if you retrieve your vehicle in the morning.
It will continue to be the goal of the Cañon City Area Recreation and Park District to provide great recreation opportunities to both our citizens and guests from other communities, and to respect our surrounding neighbors. Please follow park guidelines and enjoy the outdoors.
