The Cañon City Area Recreation and Park District and City of Cañon City have agreed to put a final swimming pool question on the November 3, 2026 ballot.  Since 2023, Cañon City has been without a public swimming pool.  In 2024 voters authorized capital construction of a replacement facility, but did not approve an operational property tax measure.  In 2025 the voters rejected a second operational question, but this time it was an excise tax.  In 2026 it didn't look like there would be an option for a pool replacement project moving forward until a group of citizens came forward with an idea for a seasonal pool,  using the existing sales tax for both capital construction and operations.  No additional taxes are being proposed.

Now voters will make a final decision on the pool this November.  A yes vote means a seasonal pool will be constructed to replace the Icabone Swimming Pool.  A no vote means a pool will not be built and the remaining tax revenue would be returned to the citizens in a process to be determined by the Cañon City Council.
